From the 12th - 15th September, The Baywatchers will be taking part in a car rally with a difference. Armed with a 'banger' costing no more than £100, we will attempt to drive 1500 miles across Europe to Split (Croatia), via Bern (Switzerland), Bormio (Italy) and Ljubljana (Slovenia) to raise money for HCPT Group 149 - St Albans.
Each team is given a theme for their car, and ours is 'Baywatch'. The car and the team have to reflect the theme for the duration of the trip, so we plan to spend some time on the beach fulfilling our lifeguarding duties! There is no mechanical support other than the few tools that we bring with us... so it could be a long push! For the greens amongst you, all cars are disposed of properly in Croatia and we have offset our carbon emissions for the whole journey - so the environment won't suffer.
About the Charity
Each year at Easter, the Handicapped Children's Pilgrimage Trust (HCPT) takes people with disabilities or special needs on a pilgrimage holiday to Lourdes in France, travelling with a team of experienced volunteer helpers, doctors, nurses and chaplains. First and foremost this offers a great opportunity for handicapped individuals to have a nice break and a change of scenery, as well as meeting people from different backgrounds with a range of disabilities. In addition to this it also provides the parents and carers with a break from their often tiring day-to-day support, and is also a fantastic opportunity for younger people in the community to volunteer their help and gain an appreciative view of how difficult life can really be for some people. It costs approximately £600 to take a disabled guest to Lourdes, so with your help we can extend this experience to as many people as possible Please dig deep and sponsor us online.
Donating through this site is simple, fast, tax efficient, and totally secure. HCPT will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.
So please sponsor us now!
Many thanks for your support.
