Story

Thank you, and welcome to my JustGiving page!

In May of this year, I am set to run in the Scottish Half Marathon in Edinburgh, Scotland. It's a huge ask of me, and my overweight and prematurely ancient body, but the struggle is something I would rather choose than be chosen to deal with.

In 2007, my Mum was diagnosed with Colon cancer, which was a struggle that she didn't choose, and ended up causing a world of pain for her, and the people around her. Maggie's Cancer Centre provided great advice and support for my Mum when she needed it most, and they never asked for a dime.

In this modern era, it's common knowledge that nothing comes for free. That being said, Maggie's was able to give my Mum valuable information and support during what was then, the most troubling time of her life. Maggie's had answers for questions that her family and friends didn't, and they offered a supportive hand to her, and anyone else affected by the tragedy. Whilst this was all on offer for nothing, unfortunately it still demands funding to keep it going. I want to do my best to find some funding for a charity that has helped me indirectly, and more importantly helped the one woman I look up to the most, my Mum.

Unfortunately the trauma didn't end with Colon Cancer. My Mum endured a serious surgery to remove 25% of her cancerous bowel, and she was also enough of a trooper to deal with six weeks of chemotherapy before being struck down with a serious stroke only a few months after finding out she had cancer. The stroke has left her troubled, but she still battles in her day to day life to get back to a place where she's happy. The worst news of it all? She was only 53 when it happened. This chain of events shows that we're all human, and we will always need support from those who provide it the best, in this case, that source was Maggie's Cancer Centre.

I want to prove to myself and to those around me that I am able to overcome something that has troubled me from the beginning of my adult life, my weight, and fitness. For over a decade, I have been overweight, and have been clinically classified as obese. Because of this, I have recently found that I have high blood pressure, and high cholesterol. This then is a weapon against a future of blood related issues, and hopefully a message to those who aren't happy and want to see that it's possible to motivate one's self to achieve the un-thought of. If you ask anyone who knows me... the thought of me accomplishing the goal of finishing a half marathon is near enough a joke to make people smirk. I hope that with your backing, we will raise well-needed funds for a cause that deserves it, and in the process show some non-believers that anything is possible!

I would greatly appreciate whatever you can put towards Maggies, and I look forward to achieving a few goals this Spring with your help! Be it £1 or £1,000,000, it's the thought that counts, and I hope that you can dig deep and donate whatever is possible within your means.
