Story
BDO’s 2012 One Firm Challenge is our charity cycle ride from John o’ Groats in the north east of Scotland to Land’s End on Cornwall’s most southwesterly tip. This 900 mile trip will take place between 13 and 22 July this year, with over 80 of the firm’s fittest (and not so fit) cyclists already signed up to ride either the whole distance or to do a one-day ‘stage’. In 2012, we’re aiming to raise £250,000 for charity and with the cycle ride as the main fundraiser for the year, we need your help.
The team attempting to complete this challenge from Birmingham is a mix of occasional cyclists and very occasional cyclists, infact some of the team have had to buy bikes to take part in this event. Mark Young, Steve Massey and Matt Goodliffe will attempt to cycle the full route and Mark Anslow, Steve Ward and Lawrence Mills will cycle a number of legs of the route.
We will be cycling nearly 100 miles a day on average, which is further than cycling from Birmingham to Manchester, every day for 10 days! It is also pretty hilly, and given we are doing it in British summer time it is guaranteed to be very wet and windy!
We’re really keen for the everyone to get behind the challenge including clients, suppliers, friends and relatives so please show your support by sponsoring one of the riders, channelling your own efforts to support Birmingham Children’s Hospital or by simply clicking on the donate button on this page.
At BDO we are committed to being a responsible business, both in how we work with our clients but also in terms of how we contribute to the wider community and the world around us. It is important to us that we all work for a socially responsible organisation and our approach therefore reflects our people. With a network of offices around the country it’s important that we are actively involved in supporting and developing the communities in which we operate. That’s why with the One Firm Challenge we have 14 charities that we are supporting. Selected by our people on an office basis they range from the national, significant and well-known charities through to those that are small, local and personal.
We want to make a lasting and positive impact and the One Firm Challenge will help us in our aim.
