IMAGINE a fantastic day in the Summer filled with fun and laughter......
IMAGINE that this event will also raise a huge amount of money for local charities.....
10th of July, 2008 sees the inaugural 'Beatles Day' as part of the Summer Pops at Liverpool Echo Arena . All proceeds from the event will go to John Lennon's 'Imagine' Children's charity for Alder Hey hospital and our other chosen charity for this year which is the Liverpool Unite charity (Rhys Jones Memorial Fund). Please note that money donated to this page will only go to the 'Imagine Appeal'. 'Beatles Day' is intended to be a celebration of Liverpool, the Beatles Music and their symbiotic relationship.
During 'Beatles Day' we will have several Beatle related events happening in the daytime, including a mufti day for schools and businesses, Beatles Fun Run, Beatles Quiz, and various children's activities. The main daytime event will be a parade around the well known Beatle hotspots - Penny Lane, Strawberry Fields etc. culminating in a concert at the Arena in which the UK's top stars will perform Beatles songs chosen by the public from votes on radio/TV. The parade will feature a Beatles band playing live on the back of a truck and will be filmed/photographed by TV and press as it tours the city.
The Echo are backing this event, as are the Capital of Culture and Radio City.
We are using Beatles wigs, glasses and inflatable guitars as props for this day, much as a red nose is used for Comic Relief (it's a bit about Liverpool not taking itself too seriously as well). The plan is to have the wigs, glasses etc. on sale in various outlets and to be bought by local businesses for their employees. We want 'Beatles Day' to become an annual event to raise money for Alder Hey Children's Hospital in much the same way that Red Nose Day is an annual event. Each year we will chose a local charity to share the proceeds with the Imagine appeal. Schools and businesses are encouraged to take part by letting their students/staff turn up for work on the day in casual clothes or preferably dressed as Beatles.
