Every two hours someone in the UK is paralysed by a spinal cord injury. It can happen to anyone at any time and no one is prepared for how it will change their life. Aspire is a national charity that provides practical help, supporting spinal cord injured people from injury to independence.

Story

We have signed up to swim the equivalent of the English channel to help the Charity ASPIRE, the national spinal cord injury charity, they have invited swimmers young and old from across the United Kingdom to take part in their annual ASPIRE Channel Swim.

This popular event takes place between Monday 14th September and Sunday 7th December 2009 - however instead of freezing in the Channel - We like all people taking this challenge are clocking up the equivalent distance of the Channel (22 miles) in the warmth and comfort of my local swimming pool.

Our local pool is 25 meters in length, So I have got to each swim 1416 lengths in twelve weeks!.
