NEWS: As you are probably aware the recent volcanic ash disruption has been significant and sadly my trip to China has been postponed. Hopefully I will be able to head out in the next couple of weeks however please be assured that for all those that have sponsored me I will be completing this challenge in the near future.

Thanks for visiting my fundraising page.

This time I will be fundraising for Rainbows Childrens Hospice in Loughborough by trekking across the Great Wall of China - or at least a part of it!! Across the 5/6 days trekking we will cover around 80km and whilst the views will be spectacular the trekking is challenging. A full itinerary is listed below however many parts of the trek are on unrestored areas of the wall and extremely steep. During the trek we will camp alongside the wall and in local villages with the opportunity to meet the local community.

Rainbows Childrens Hospice relies on fundraising and donations in order to continue to provide the excellent service to children suffering from life-limiting and life-threatening conditions. Many of these children visit the hospice for specialist treatments, respite stays and end-of-life care and support is also provided to their families. For more information regarding Rainbows please use the link to the left or visit their website at www.rainbows.co.uk.

As many of you know I have 2 wonderful children of my own who are thankfully fit and healthy therefore we have never needed the support of a facility such as Rainbows. My greatest challenge throughout this trek will be to leave my children behind. I know that they will continue to inspire me and I hope that by completing this challenging and raising money it will help Rainbows to provide support and services to other children who are not as lucky as my own.

Many thanks for reading my page and for your donations.

China Trek Itinerary

Day 1: UK - Beijing

Day 2: Beijing - Gubeikou   Arriving in Beijing in the morning and transferring to Gubeikou ready for the start of the trek.

Day 3: Gubeikou - Tao Chun (16km)    Climbing for 30 mins takes us to the start of the trek. This first section hasn't been restored and is very overgrown with bushes and trees

Day 4: Tao Chun - Simatai (18km)      Following the Jinshanling section which has been wonderfully restored in parts. There is a lot of scrambling and strenuous trekking but very rewarding with magnificent views. By late afternoon we will reach the Simatai section and camp for the night

Day 5: Simatai - Ganfang (14 km)    Over a suspension bridge and up a steep section to the 12th Tower. The hardest day of the trek but once again rewarded with fantastic views. Camping that night in the grounds of a local school

Day 6: Ganfang - Lingxiu (17 km)    Trekking along a dirt track off the wall to reach the Bailing Arch for lunch. As we descend into a valley we pass through a number of villages

Day 7: Lingxiu - Xinchen - Beijing (15km)   The last day of trekking takes us through rainforests and a final descent brings us to the finishing point. A celebration dinner in Beijing awaits to recognise our achievements.
