My story

Thank you for visiting my fundraising page.

I'm now over halfway to my target, and I still need your help! :)

I ran the London Marathon 2009 for Save The Rhino! I completed it in 6:28:32 which I was pretty pleased with as it got very hot towards the end. The sunshine was gorgeous and the spectators were truly amazing!

You can check out how my training and the race went here: beckisavestherhinos.wordpress.com

(I'm also on Twitter if you'd like to follow my adventures there)

UPDATE (27/04/09): I've been featured on the JustGiving blog!

UPDATE: I'm mentioned in the Marathon News magazine in the JustGiving article on page 182.

UPDATE: I ran the Adidas Silverstone Half Marathon on 15th March in 2:30:40 (a good time for me) and ran the whole way round which I am very pleased with! I was also sporting a lovely rhino hat and a running outfit in rhino grey :) See my flickr pics for more!

You might ask: why did I choose to support rhinos? Well, here are a couple of reasons:

1: I have a lot in common with rhinos, being a somewhat grumpy short-sighted vegetarian with stumpy legs!

2: Saving the rhinos will help to protect many less obvious species sharing the same ecosystem, and Save the Rhino also work with local communities to educate them about Rhinos and their value for tourism - so it’s not just about the rhinos, the environment and local people benefit too.

3: Humans are the only reason that rhinos are endangered so we should work to fix the problem that we created the first place.

4: Rhinos are ‘charismatic mega-herbivores’. How about that for a description?! The 'charismatic' bit basically means that rhinos are a 'flagship' species, one that everyone knows about, although the problems that are causing their endangered status affect many other species. The 'mega-herbivore' bit means they're large plant-eaters.

5: Rhinos have been around for tens of millions of years. Humans have been around for a lot less time. Technically the rhinos should be kicking us out!

Please sponsor me! All sponsorship is very much appreciated - check out this page for information on how your donation could be used. To put it into context, if just 154 people sponsor me £1 per mile, I'll have reached my target and there'll be a lot of very happy rhinos! :)

In fact, sponsor me £26.20 (£1 a mile) and to say thank you I will send you one of these adorable rhino cuddly toys :)

Or, if you would rather buy something to help the rhinos, head on over to my Etsy shop and buy a bracelet (or other craft item) and help a rhino that way!

Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Save the Rhino International gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.
