Run to Remember · 1 December 2013

Our aim is to provide opportunities for the future to children who have lost a close family member through violent crimes. We look at providing grants or services to aid learning and employment prospects.

Story

None of us can forget the tragic events that unfolded in Manchester last year when PC Nicola Hughes and her colleague PC Fiona Bone tragically lost their lives in a gun & grenade attack while on duty.

April 2014 will see Nicola’s dad, Bryn Hughes, take part in the North Pole Marathon (www.npmarathon.com) raising money for the PC Nicola Hughes Memorial Fund which splits itself between three charities (Victim Support, Care of Police Survivors and the North West Police Benevolent Fund).

In a show of support for this amazing endeavour, 26 officers and staff from Bedfordshire Police are taking part in “Run to Remember”. Over the course of 125 days (from 1 December 2013 and 4 April 2014), we’ll each be running 250 miles come rain or shine (okay, mostly rain). The mathematicians among you may have worked out that this equates to 2 miles per day. Some of the runners will be challenging themselves to run every single day (yes, even Christmas) while others will be dividing the 250 miles into more manageable chunks. Either way, it’s going to be tough*.

We’re aiming to raise the equivalent of £100 for every runner taking part, and any donations will be greatly appreciated. You can either donate via this JustGiving page or by text message. Just text BEDS55 followed by the amount you wish to donate (e.g. "BEDS55 £5") to 70070.

·         Are we a bit mad for attempting this?                    Yes.

·         Will our knees all catch fire by day 73?                    Probably.

·         Should you donate to this fantastic cause?           Of course you should.

Thanks in advance - you're awesome.

Jay

*although not as tough as the North Pole Marathon itself. For starters, there aren’t any polar bears in Bedfordshire.

…well, maybe in Leighton Buzzard.
