Music in Hospitals & Care Scotland aims to enhance the quality of life for people of all ages in hospitals, hospices, care homes, day centres and special schools in Scotland through the provision of live music performed by professional musicians. 1,657 concerts were given in Scotland last year.

Story

For three days, on December 13th, 14th, and 15th, my ears will be filled with earplugs, and covered wth padding and construction worker's ear-muffs. At the most, I will hear a muffled murmur if there is a loud sound, but by in large, I will be cut off from communication, music, the sound of the doorbell, the phone. Its my third and final experiment in experiencing a disability. Two years ago, I blindfolded myself, and last year I taped up my mouth and didn't utter a peep.

I am doing this to bring good sounds to the places where they are really needed. The Edinburgh-based charity Music In Hospitals takes harpists, celtic flautists, guitarists and the like to a total of 532 hospitals and care homes around Scotland. Hospitals can be such dreary, depressing places. Music can lift the spirits, thereby helping patients recovery, and generally making the whole trauma of being in a hospital that bit more bearable, and possibly, even enjoyable.

Thanks very much for your support

(P.S.  - in the comments section, please answer this question - what is your favourite sound?)
