Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. I need your generous help again! This time I'm not doing the hard work - I'm just driving a minibus - but some of you I know would like to still sponsor me - probably not to sing all the way!! Thank you from the bottom, middle and top of my heart! It really is the most amazing cause.
So why do 32 sane people want to climb up and down 3 mountains in Wales, England and Scotland in 24 hours? To raise much needed funds for the Teenage Cancer Trust, a fantastic charity who help treat and save the lives of young adults with cancer.
Every day 7 young people in the UK are diagnosed with cancer. The Teenage Cancer Trust supports and saves many of these precious lives including many young people from Norfolk on their ward C9, at Addenbrookes Hospital.
But they need our help to do this.
There are much easier ways, but Team Maisie want to deserve your money so they’ll be undertaking the gruelling Three Peaks Challenge - the 3 highest peaks in Wales - Mt. Snowdon, England - Scafell Pike and Scotland - Ben Nevis; so that’s climbing and walking 23 miles, ascending 3064 mts. and driving 462 miles to reach them, all in 24 hours!!! Even in July it’s not unknown for mountain conditions to become treacherous, with 60 mph winds, freezing temperatures and whatever else the weather throws at them.
The Maisie 100 began when Maisie Colquhoun from Wymondham, a very vibrant and courageous young woman was diagnosed with a rare aggressive bone cancer, Ewing's sarcoma. In 2014 aged 15, she underwent intensive rounds of chemotherapy, radiotherapy and a stem cell transplant, all at ward C9 in Addenbrookes. Tragically Maisie did not survive but she wanted her family and friends to continue raising funds for Teenage Cancer Trust to enable them to treat and support other young people and their families.
Judith Anderson, Teenage Cancer Trust Regional Fundraiser (East Anglia) said: “We are hugely grateful to Maisie 100, who have raised an extraordinary amount over the years for our Teenage Cancer Trust unit at Addenbrookes. Their success is a wonderful tribute to Maisie and is making a huge difference to the lives of other young people with cancer in the East of England.
“Please get behind Maisie 100’s Three Peak’s Challenge, and help them reach their £10,000 goal. Every pound raised is vital in allowing us to protect and grow our specialist services at Addenbrookes.”
