Story
This year is my biggest challenge yet - the Ultra Trail of Mont Blanc - the hardest footrace in Europe. The Marathon des Sables is billed as the 'Toughest race in the world' - the MdS was only half my qualification points for the UTMB - that should give an indication of how tough it is going to be. In spite of qualifying for the race, only 33% of applicants get a place - for some reason I managed to get a spot. The race starts and finishes in Chamonix - at the foot of Mont Blanc. In between there is 166km of non stop trail running, walking and climbing, taking in 9500 metres of positive altitude change (and the same DOWN!) - that is 1km MORE than Mount Everest. The race is non stop, and only 40% of competitors finish in any given year. Regular ultra marathon runners will recognise this as the Granddaddy of Ultras. As part of the training for this race, I managed to train for and finish Ironman France in June 2012.
Why am I putting myself through this? Cancer. My life has been touched by cancer. 1 in 3 people get cancer. 1 in 4 people die from cancer. Many more people are affected by it. Your donation, big or small, will help fund the research into finding a cure for cancer. Please give what you can.
