My story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
On July 18th Jayne Brown and David Brown (Ryan’s Aunt and Uncle) along with our good friends Sue Goodall and Julie King will be climbing Ben Nevis, the highest mountain in Britain. At 4,408 feet this will be no afternoon stroll but we all plan to reach the summit for Ryan – even Jayne with her aversion to anything physically demanding!! We will be travelling to Scotland on motorbikes so we do expect to have a sore saddle when we arrive to toughen the challenge up even more!!
It will be worth every aching muscle, bruise and blister to raise funds for Meningitis Research in memory of a wonderful young man, Ryan Sweatman who was cruelly taken from us far too soon at the age of just 19 years with this dreadful disease.
It is difficult to put into words how totally heartbreaking the loss of Ryan is and how completely incomprehensible it is that this dreadful disease has now struck our family twice as Ryan’s brother Joe also died after contracting meningitis 21 years ago when he was just two months old.
On New Year’s Day we had our traditional family get together with Ryan, enjoying being together as all families do at that time of year with the usual games and friendly competition between us all and on that day amidst all the laughter we could never have imagined that within days we would all be completely shattered with the news that Ryan was gone, so suddenly and so unexpectedly and with no chance to save him. Meningitis B is now responsible for 90% of all confirmed cases and there is still no vaccine.
It is so apparent that Ryan has made such a positive difference to so many lives. His family and his friends will never get over losing him but we will all treasure the precious memories that he gifted to us and will hold him in our heart for always.
“Death leaves a heartache no one can heal, love leaves a memory no one can steal”.
Please help however you can by sponsoring our event with whatever you can afford, every pound will make a difference and will help to fund research to find a vaccine, increase awareness and education and prevent this disease from cruelly taking such precious lives.
“Nobody can do everything but everyone can do something”
With much love to all of you and our sincerest thanks for your support
Jayne, David, Julie and Sue xx
