UPDATE 27.07.13: Thanks to everyone who helped me to reach my original £500 target - as there are still three weeks to go, I've increased my target to £750 - I need all the incentive I can get!
I'm not a professional runner. I should probably get that out the way to start with. I enjoy running and although I occasionally compete, I'm not too bothered about times or personal bests - without sounding sappy about it, I just like running to (and around) cool places.
At 8pm on the 17th August 2013, I'm going to set out from Barnstaple in North Devon and run to my brother's flat in Bristol. It's 130 miles and I'm going to run it in one go (with only very short pit stops along the way). I'm aiming to run it in around 24 hours. I'll use Facebook and the Twitters to let everyone know what I'm up to, training-wise - so far, I seem to be tentatively on track to maybe just about manage it, but we'll see I suppose :)
If you want to chat about what I'm going to do, send me a message or a comment. The sponsorship money's going to support a charity that's close to the heart of my day job as a dispensing optician; Vision Aid Overseas conduct optical clinics in the third world, to provide eye tests and spectacles to as many people who need them as possible. Believe it or not, uncorrected vision is the world's leading cause of 'partial sight', stopping people from working or even seeing their family's faces - and yeah, 'uncorrected vision' just means 'needs glasses'. You can read more about the fantastic work that VAO do on their website.
So that's it. The page description will probably update to reflect updates to the plan, but please follow what I'm doing (I need all the moral support I can get), please sponsor me (Vision Aid Overseas need all the funds they can get) and please don't ask me about my mile PB, because I have NO IDEA.
