Well, it is done. I know you'll probably cut straight to the photos but once you've stopped laughing long enough to read this, I've included a brief description of the day.

You'll have seen by now that I was one half of the dynamic duo which turned out to be a good choice as there were many Batmans for me to run alongside and mutter such amusing asides as 'holy headwind, Batman' or just humming 'de ner de ner de ner de ner' for as long as I could keep it up, which wasn't all that long.

The day started badly, it was raining the proverbial and I was feeling faintly ridiculous as I set off in full costume carrying an umbrella and a 'what the hell am I doing attitude'. It slightly lightened my mood that everyone I passed on the way to the station and most people on the train made no comment or eye contact whatsoever. One couple on their way to gatwick did shout 'alright Rodders' which made me chuckle.

As I got close to Hove seafront two things happened that made me realise the day was going to be fun after all. Firstly, the sun came out, and although the wind didn't drop and the sea was still crashing into the pebbles, at least I was going to be dry, well, drier anyway. Secondly, I began to see other people dressed up including an entire family of Incredibles, complete with a super dog! The atmosphere at the start line was electric, there were around 600 costumed runners, and it felt good to be a part of it. My favourite was a guy dressed as Dr Manhattan from Watchmen who had obviously spent hours getting ready and looked resplendant.

The run went well and I got through fine. I managed to keep an even pace despite the wind and it wasn't until the final kilometre that I started to get overtaken  - I didn't slow up but some people were managing to speed up which I was in no position to do. I crossed the finish line to lots of cheers in 48minutes 21 seconds which was well inside my target. Happy and tired I headed home cutting a much more dishevelled but happier figure than had set out.

This is a charity that is very close to my heart as it supports a weekend club which Reuben attends on a monthly basis. The fact that he is always willing to go (when sometimes we can't even get him out of the house for ice-cream) is testament to the relaxed and fun atmosphere at the club. As well as providing a fun environment for the kids to play, the club allows their parents and carers a few welcome hours of respite.
