The Year of The Beard · 27 March 2015

The National Autistic Society is here to transform lives, change attitudes and create a society that works for autistic people. There is still so much to do to increase opportunities, reduce social isolation and build a brighter future for autistic people. With your help, we can make it happen.

Story

Welcome to my page.

Friday 27th March 2015 sees the start of World Autism Awareness Week. It also sees the start of my own small mission to help a great cause. I plan to grow a beard from 2nd April 2015 to 2nd April 2016.

2 years ago I didn't really understand what Autism meant, neither did I know what fantastic work The National Autistic society do until my eldest son was diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome which forms part of the Autistic Spectrum. This opened my eyes to the struggles that people who are on the spectrum can have on a daily basis. Simple tasks for you or I may be extremely difficult for them or may make absolutely no sense whatsoever. Imagine being thrown into a foreign country where you don't understand the language, have no idea about the culture and you don't know why you're there but the locals are talking at you and expecting you to understand; this is what it can be like on a daily basis for someone who suffers from an Autistic Spectrum Disorder.

For this reason I ask you to please dig as deep as you can and donate to this great charity to support them to support people with autism.

I will post regular updates and photos both on here and on Facebook.
