Story
I am the girl who was picked last for sports teams. The girl with the matchstick thin legs. Who ate cheesecake for breakfast. Who can throw back neat vodka. The girl who buried friends and family before their time. The girl now running a marathon, and will remember them all with every painful stride of 26.2 miles.
I am now the girl who runs for you and your friends, and your family - because sadly, 1 in 3 of us will develop cancer in our lifetime.
Now I need you to be a supporter. The Institute of Cancer Research works to transform cancer treament. Its aims is to stop cancer being a life-threatening disease. You can help their work by sponsoring me in the Berlin Marathon on September 20th. From your donation, 95% will go directly into their research and only 5% to their operating costs - making them the most cost-effective cancer research organisation in the world. 100% of your contribution will keep me running those 42 kilometres, so any donation, regardless of the size really is appreciated.
I've been preparing for this event for nearly a year - three months mental and nine months of training. It's effected my work, my travelling, my eating, my drinking, my social life, my emotional state and my credit card. With 14 days to go, I can say it's been worth every effort; whatever the impact for me, it's nothing compared to what I have seen my friends and family endure with cancer. And with your help, I can make a contribution to make sure that less of us have to witness that, and less of us need run a marathon.
Thank you for your support. If you can't give / won't give consider dropping me an email (a real one, not just facebook) with a song for my ipod and a message. Or forward this to someone who might remember me, or someone whose life has been affected by cancer. Together we'll get to the last mile.
