Story
For those of you who have met Beryl, you will know why driving her 1,555 miles across Europe and back in three days is a pretty ambitious task. For those of you that haven't, just take a look at the photo. She's a beaut, don't you think? My brilliant dad and brother and I are going to join a whole load of other bangers, all worth £200 or less, on an epic journey that may just finish her off completely. And now, just to add to the hilarity of it all, my brother has decided to wear a sumo wrestling costume during the journey.
The route starts in High Wycombe and will proceed through Northern France then on to Belgium and Germany. It will then twist and turn its way through the breathtaking Alps into Switzerland for the final leg of the journey where we will decide how and if we will be making our way home again.
Why are we doing this? Please read on and you'll understand.
Every year in the UK alone:
Around 20,000 children and young people under 18 are bereaved of a mother or father,
Almost 3,000 children and young people die between the ages of 1 and 19, as a result of illness or accident,
And one baby in a hundred dies before, at, or soon after birth - that is 17 babies each day.
Grief, in its many forms, is one of the most painful experiences that anyone can suffer, and every year it is experienced by thousands of families in the UK. The Child Bereavement Charity provides support and information to all affected by the death of a baby or child or when children are bereaved and accessible training for the professionals who work with these families and children. This amazing cause needs more help than ever to be able to continue its invaluable work both in the immediate crisis and in the time following the death of someone important in the lives of such familes.
