We fund research and raise awareness to create a world free from meningitis

Story

Amritsar to Delhi

22 - 30 October 2006

We're back!  We made it in one piece although Bev did have her first proper motorbike accident and has the bruises to prove it (lots of them)!  It really was the trip of a lifetime and we're exhausted - it definately wasn't a 'holiday'!  Check out the blog for a full report and pictures http://lazyferret.blogspot.com

If you haven't yet donated, please click the button below - your money will be going to a very worthy cause.  This website will remain up until 22nd Decemeber so there's still time to give! Many thanks to everyone who has already donated or sponsored us - we're really overwhelmed by how generous you have been.

Jon and Bev have completed an exciting personal challenge to raise money for the Meningitis Research Foundation. We rode 1,300km in Northern India on Royal Enfield Bullets - from the Amritsar's beautiful Golden Temple to the Jalori mountain pass at almost 3,200m (3 times the height of Snowdon!), with its superb views of the Himalayas, and back to the ‘excitement’ of riding Delhi’s busy streets.

Jon’s brother contracted meningitis but happily made a full recovery; even so, the experience was very traumatic for us all, and many families aren’t as lucky. We're hoping to raise £2,000 to fund research into this disease, so every donation, no matter how small, will help towards that total. We paid our own travel costs so all the money raised will go to the Meningitis Research Foundation.

About the Meningitis Research Foundation - www.meningitis.org/ Meningitis can kill in hours and those who recover may be left with permanent disabilities – but it can often be successfully treated if identified in time. The M R F annually spends over £2.5 million on research to prevent meningitis and septicaemia and to improve survival rates and outcomes. It also promotes education and awareness programmes for both the general public and health professionals to reduce death and disability. Its 24 hour helpline, run by trained staff and nurses, supports people affected by these diseases and health professionals dealing with them.

The charity distributes millions of life-saving symptoms cards, leaflets and posters to the general public and health professionals free of charge. Your donations could buy: £1=100 symptoms cards; £5=1 school or university information pack; £10=1 hour of in-depth support; £25=1 hour of a typical research project; £100=20 information packs for GP surgeries and health professionals; £250 funding for our 24 hour helpline for half a day.

Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It's also the most efficient way to sponsor us: Meningitis Research Foundation will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.

So please sponsor us now! Many thanks for your support.

Meningitis is deadly; killing and seriously disabling in hours. Small children and young adults are high risk, but all ages can be affected. Globally 1,000 people die daily. We fundraise to invest in research, campaign for vaccines, provide symptom information and support those already affected.
