Story
I've contemplated making a fool of myself in the Manchester 10k run sporadically on and off for the last few years. Every year I would think... I'll wait until I get fit. Well that's not happened, but I'm biting the bullet and committing to May 2009.
I don't like running, i'm rubbish at it. I look like a flailing chicken freed from it's cage. But I like charity. I like volunteering and I like contributing. So should you.
For those who know me well, my choice of charity may or may not surprise you. I am running for the LGF. The date of the race is 17th May 2009. That is also the International Day Against Homophobia (IDAHO). It's therefore fitting that I choose an LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans) charity.
LGBT charities find it difficult to raise money beyond the restrictive confines of partnership and funding agreements, fundraising appeals are notoriously difficult. There are no pictures of babies or poorly animals to guilt viewers during the break of Corrie. Prejudice and ignorance isn't as easy to convey.
I don't want to bang on but- locally, nationally and internationally there is a lot of homophobia and transphobia out there. From LGBT people being bullied in our schools or the workplace, to hate crime in our streets... 73% of lesbian, gay and bisexual people have experienced prejudice, discrimination and harassment because of their sexual orientation.
There is still a lot to be done.
So please dontate what you can. I'm not promising that by sponsoring this flailing chicken to make an idiot of herself you will eradicate homophobia and transphobia... but I'm promising you can do your bit.

Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: The Lesbian And Gay Foundation gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.
So please sponsor me now!
