Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

This is my son Douglas and has been diagnosed with spindle cell sarcoma; this is a cancer of bone and tissue. He is undergoing chemo at University College London Hospital Oncology Ward. He first started getting pain in his hip and had tests but all come back normal, it was only when Douglas got pain in his chest and had breathing problems that I took him to A&E and through an x-ray found that something wasn’t right. He was kept in at Medway Maritime Hospital and had lots more tests, by this time the pain was so severe he was on the highest dose of morphine. We got the news that it may be sarcoma; Bone Cancer. Douglas had to have biopsy on both his hip and chest which was very painful and uncomfortable. Douglas then got moved to UCLH where they did more scans and found that it had spread to his heart and the cancer was spindle cell sarcoma. It took 8 months for us to find out what was wrong with Douglas and may be if this was found sooner the cancer many not of spread. It was only when Douglas started his chemo that the pain decreased. Douglas has had 3 rounds of chemo and has another 3 rounds to go and then I don’t know.’ Douglas thought he had arthritis’.

We need to find this sort of cancer earlier before it spreads, like Douglas’s. Sarcoma doesn’t get the funding like all the other Cancers. This is why I have set up this page, it’s for my son and hundreds like him.

70 per cent of the funds will be going University College London Hospital Oncology Fund and 30 per cent to the Kent and Medway Charity Team to help stage the event and for its children’s road safety work

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure.
