I DID IT!!
A great big thank you to everybody for their support, encouragement and donations which have enabled me to do this event and raise lots of money.
The final mileage was 288 days in the very very hot sunshine! Lots of ups, some downs but a lot of laughs and excellent camaraderie along the way. Highlight was definitely all 120 of us cycling around the Chaps Elysees, stopping the traffic and everybody cheering. Fantastic and I will never forget it!
WOOP WOOP!
Hello! Thanks for visiting my fundraising page.
On 1st July 2009, I will be cycling from London to Paris in aid of The British Liver Trust. 300 miles over 4 days - the challenge starts now as I have to get myself in tip-top condition; (undercarriage and all) for the gruelling event .... the first day alone is an arduous 95 miles from London to Dover.
The Reason .....
For those of you who do not know, in May 2008, after a period of not feeling well and then finally turning yellow, I was diagnosed with Autoimmune Hepatitis. This is a rare chronic liver disease in which a person's immune system attacks their liver and tries to reject it. Weird huh?! It is not yet known why it happens and there is no cure - the treatment is a cocktail of drugs indefinitely. Shake me and I rattle
Me and my Bike ......
Those of you know me well, will know that in the past I have been a keen cyclist. However, the last few years have been busy with becoming a Mum and then dealing with my diagnosis last year, so believe me, I am out of shape and therefore this will not be an easy task!
The Challenge .......
I have decided the best way to deal with this illness is to fight back! Now I have accepted my diagnosis and the fact I cannot do anything about it, I am not content to just carry on as usual, but want to use this opportunity to make a difference if I can. The British Liver Trust has been really useful and helpful to me - with their leaflets, forums and helpline.
Another challenge for me is leaving my husband and daughter at home to fend for themselves for 4 nights - we are rarely apart and I will find this very difficult. (Pete says, any dinner invitations gratefully received!) However, my whole family are all extremely supportive, understand why I want to do this and promise to be at the Eurostar terminal on the Sunday evening to welcome me home.
Once again, thanks for visiting my page, and please support me by donating as much or as little as you can - it will all help!
Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: British Liver Trust gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.
