Hi there, and thank you for visiting my page!

Despite sweepstakes predicting how long it would take for me to enter the 'real world', the unthinkable has happened and I have found myself in full-time employment. As part of my grad scheme, Mr. Tesco is sending me on placement to India for 3 months in April, but I thought that while I was in that neck of the woods, I would take a little jolly up to Nepal over Easter. Scenic tour? Luxury hotel break? Apparently not. For some reason, I decided to sign up to trek to an altitude of 5500m+ and attempt to reach Everest Base Camp.

I have paid for the entire trip myself, so this isn't an 'official' fundraiser as such. But while I have you attention, allow me to tell you a little about summer 2008. I joined 36 other students from 6 UK Unis on the IDEALS project, which is co-ordinated by UK Sport. We went to Zambia, and were involved with 2 local NGOs, EduSport and Sport in Action. We spent time in the compounds of the capital Lusaka, coaching sports and working with Zambian peer leaders to promote sport as a medium for development.

Since returning, I have maintained links with both NGOs, and thought this would be a great opportunity to promote their work, and more importantly, try and raise some funds. Both NGOs focus on providing education and training for children around the compounds of Lusaka. Also, both focus on developing talented young peer leaders who have shown commitment and enthusiasm for leading sport in their communities. Please visit Friend of Edusport website at www.friendofedusport.org or Sport in Action at www.sportinaction.org.zm to find out more.

So, please help the NGOs out by donating whatever you can- even if it's just the price of a beer! And wish me luck as I drag my carcass through the Himalayas!

:o) xXx
