In May 'Big Italian Cyclists': Nick Hind, Jamie Duffield and Tom Tomlinson will be cycling approx 1200miles from Milan to Sicily, aiming to complete the cycle within three weeks. The route will take us through mountain ranges, forests and along coastal roads at times covering distances of 100 + miles a day.

 

Although each of us will inevitably find the cycle a personal challenge we unanimously agreed that we should take the opportunity to make it about more than our own sense of achievement and use it to raise money for a charity.

 

When discussing which charity to choose, there was only ever one option. Treetops Hospice provides respite and palliative care for adults who suffer with illnesses such as cancer, motor neurone disease and multiple sclerosis. Also providing support to carers and families.

 

Jamies mother who was first diagnosed with brain cancer 22 years ago attends the hospice in Risley, Derbyshire every Tuesday; it is the highlight of her week, a place where staff offer great support and comfort to her and to the friends that she has made there. Beyond this the charity provides much appreciated relief to Jamie and his family, knowing of their willingness to go above and beyond to provide an exceptional standard of care is a constant reassurance to us. Knowing of the service that Treetops provide, we all agreed that this is the charity we should raise money for.

By completing this cycle we hope to show our appreciation for the work that Treetops carries out. We know that the challenges faced by those that visit Treetops are far beyond anything we will face on this journey but we hope that the money raised by this small gesture will go some way to help those people conquer their daily challenges
