Story

UPDATE 12th October:

What a day! Climbing through the cloud and rain on Stage 2 of the TryAthlon, 19 of us managed the twin summits of Glyder Fach and Glyder Fawr by various routes - you can see the gallery here on our Flickr page. Awesome...

Now it's time for training for third and Final stage of the Bike Hike 'n Pike effort - the swim. Some of us are more confident about this than others...

UPDATE 9th OCT:

With a massive boost to the sponsorship total today, we're raring to go. Sir Ming 'Got the Runs' Jestus has had to pull out with personal plumbing issues, Jon 'Motivational Speak-Talker' Room has limped away before it's even started with a Big Toe Problem whilst Steve and Andy are also out with other commitments... (they'll all be doing another event to make up for it)

In their place the one and only Sarah Giles and Gilo's sister are making a very special appearance, and Will is embarking on an epic trip from the Southwest to North Wales in his 22 year old Volvo to join us!

In the meantime, the White Eagles are getting ready for their hike over in Uganda - 25 miles to Lake Nabugabo and back - whilst other teams are gearing up for their hikes as well...

Let's rock!

UPDATE 6th OCT:

It's just been confirmed, we WILL be joined by the legendary Timothy 'Rabumeister' Crow and Sarah 'soon to be Crow' Giles! Bring it on! I'm so excited...

Update 4th Oct:

So Event 1: The Bike was a success, if a little punishing! Team Roadsters (Jon, Andy, Tim, Steve and Rob) completed 70 miles - well most of us did. We arrived back with 69.7 miles on the clock so most of us rode round the block to top it up... whilst Team Offroad (Miguel, Garth, Phil, Dan and Lucy) completed the gruelling 50 miles from Manchester to Hale Village nr Liverpool and back. You can check out the slideshow, including the moment Ming lost a fight with a lamp-post, over on our Flickr page here!

Now it's all about Event 2: The Hike, and we're being joined by 10 more hardy souls from across the country to scale some mountains in Snowdonia.

Please dig deep and donate now to help support the orphans and former street kids of the White Eagle Project in Uganda! Click here to find out more about them from their website

Previously on Bike Hike 'n Pike...

Following on from 2008's 'On Yer Bike for River of Life', the team are going not one but two better, with out very own TRY-Athlon - a gruelling 100km bike ride, challenging 20km + mountain trek and a 10km swim - otherwise known as the Bike, Hike 'N Pike! This is to celebrate 10 years of the White Eagles, an orphan project run by River of Life in Masaka, Uganda, and for the hike we will be joined across the miles with sponsored events up and down the UK, and even in Uganda where the White Eagles will be doing their own hike!

We're spreading the events over three months (so we have time to recover between legs!) and kicking off on the 5th September with the Bike Ride, following on with the hike on the 10th October, and finishing with the swim on the 7th November.

We'll keep you posted on progress, and whether Dan will be wearing his yellow lycra suit for all three events, here and on the River of Life blog.

So please sponsor us, and help some of Uganda's orphans fly high with the White Eagle Project! We need to raise £10,000 to help grow the White Eagle Project to help more orphaned children escape poverty, malnutrition and all the other nasties they suffer. You can find out more on their website...

Dig deep - donate now! And THANK YOU!
