My story
With the recent launch of Boris’s London Barclays Cycle Hire, and our forthcoming race across India in a Rickshaw, we thought it would be appropriate to organise our own 'pre-race race' in order to raise some much needed money for Frank Water Projects
On Thursday 2nd September, we intend to pedal our way across London, aiming to be the first, or at least one of the first people to cycle the entire capital on the new Barclays bikes. Not only will we be doing the full journey on one of the 23kg beasts, but we will be stopping off at every single docking station along the way to swap our bikes around. Please visit findmeachallenge.com for a full route (trust us, its unlike any other route you have seen:-)) and further details about this most crazy of rides – this is a race that is most definitely worth reading about... In short:
73 miles – distance as the crow flies
100 miles - the distance we will cycle (at the very least)
24 hours – the time taken
2 – the number of teams
350ish – the number of docking stations we will be stopping at
4:00mins – the time we will have to get between each docking station
23kg – the weight of a Barclays Cycle
And now that we have your attention… the Charity. We really believe in this one, and any money you donate will be going straight to the charity (you are not paying for our holiday).
Many of us tend to take our access to clean drinking water, and that magical tap that provides us with water on demand, for granted. Unfortunately though, this is only a dream for many people around the world, ONE BILLION of whom lack access to clean, safe drinking water. Because of this, UNICEF estimate that 4000 children die every day due to dirty water and poor sanitation, many of whom live in India, where Frank Water Projects focus most of their efforts. The charity works to fund facilities that provide entire villages with access to clean, safe water. To date they have funded over 58 facilities which have benefited more than 400,000 people, but need more funding.
We would ask you, by sponsoring us on this insane ride, to lend your support to Frank Water, so that they continue to save thousands of lives by providing people them with this most basic of all necessities.
Many thanks for your support.
Patrick, Jon and John
