Story
1000 MILES FOR CHARITY 2008!
Back in June 2007, after days of careful preparation, I packed a tent and sleeping bag onto my mountain bike and rode off towards the horizon, like an intrepid explorer in search of far away lands. I was back ten minutes later because half of my kit had fallen off my bike, just down the road. Once I'd bought some proper panniers, I set off again the following day, on what turned out to be quite an eventful trip. Along the way, I saw some lovely scenery and met some great people. I also got lost countless times, fell off my bike and landed in a ditch full of nettles, got escorted off a motorway by the Dutch police, got caught out in heavy rain in the open countryside for 2 hours, missed my ferry home by just 10 minutes, and had to spend the night on a bench in the ferry port. After arriving home 475 miles later, only then did it occur to me that I should have done it all for charity!
So.... I'm going to do it all again!
The Aim:
To raise money for the Lincolnshire And Nottinghamshire Air Ambulance.
The Plan:
My plan is to cycle 1000 miles, departing Lincoln on Sunday 8th June, heading across the North Sea (hopefully on a ferry) to ride along the coast, down through the Netherlands and Belgium, into France. If everything goes well (and that's a big if!) I'll return home by the end of June. You can watch my progress by visiting http://1000milesforcharity.blogspot.com/
