Dave Shuttleworth and I successfully completed 400km (250 miles) of cycling in 5 days along the banks of the Nile. We started at Esna, south of Luxor, down to Aswan and then back to Luxor for a mega celebration.
It was an experience of a lifetime; great friendships made, wonderful scenery and history, fine organisation, and some pretty hot weather. We were up most mornings before 6am and started cycling around 7am. The shortest day ride was 44K (27 miles), and the longest 122K (76 miles). There were 47 cyclists including our "celeb" Coleen Nolan who was great.
We were raising funds for the Alzheimer's Society - you can find out more from their website (see panel on the left). We understand that this cycle ride should raise around £150,000 for the Alzheimer's Society. You can still sponsor me or Dave at www.justgiving.com/bikerdave. Please note that all of the money donated has gone to the Alzheimer's Society, that is we paid for all of our travel costs. Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Alzheimer's Society will receive your money faster and, if you are a taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.
