You’re probably aware of the many dangerous challenge events that people are undertaking these days. We need to tell you about our own challenge to raise money for the fantastic work undertaken by the team at Grove House.

In September this year. the group of intrepid explorers in the photograph will attempt to cycle the harsh terrain of Eastern France in and around the region of Burgundy. We will be unsupported in our attempt, mobile phones will be turned off and our only chance of survival is to live off the land and the natural produce available to us. Each mile will be hard fought and should we chance to find a welcoming Michelin starred chateaux then we may seek shelter there.

However, for us to attempt to cover so many miles we really do need your support. Joking aside the hospice we’ve chosen to support does incredible work in our local community. Our team are trying to raise enough money to fund a hospice at home nurse for an entire year. Hospice at Home nurses allow people to spend their final days in the comfort and security of their own homes. We all want our creature comforts, sadly for many people they are not given this choice. The true value of this service we are trying to fund is that it may allow some people more of a choice about where they spend the final days of their life, which makes so much difference not just to them, but to their families who know they were able to give them what they wanted: the tailor-made support they need to keep them at home. It’s something many of us don’t consider until it affects us directly and then we realise that making this choice is complex and that every person, every family and every case is unique. The hospice at home nurse works carefully with the many other support services, to support the family in the particular way they want this support, offering incredible flexibility and clinical expertise so valuable to hard-pressed District Nurses. Grove House receives just 20% of its funding from the PCT and all the rest is funded by people like you and me.£34,000 will pay the entire cost of a H@H nurse for a year: that is our aim, to raise this amount so that we can help more people at this incredibly vulnerable stage of their lives.

We are of course meeting the entire cost of this challenge from our own pockets, so every penny raised will go to helping Grove House wth their work.
