The Salvation Army is a Christian Church & registered Charity working in 130 countries worldwide and is one of the largest and most diverse providers of social welfare in the world. Alongside our work in the UK, The Salvation Army International Projects Office works with communities around the world to support and empower them to defeat poverty and injustice. Our development projects are created and implemented in partnership with communities to enable them to build a better life and future for themselves. Story

WE'RE BACK! We completed the challenge by riding 2,225 miles from Lincolnshire to Lincolnshire via John o'Groats and Land's End! More info on the blog.  But we've not finished raising money yet so if you haven't sponsored us already there is still time... every penny counts!

Thanks to the generosity of all those who have donated so far, we have decided to increase our target to £1,500 - this would give both Macmillan Cancer Support and The Salvation Army in Boston £750 each towards their important work.

Between 11th and 19th July 2009, five bikers will ride between John o’Groats and Land’s End as both a personal challenge and to raise money for charity.

The ride won’t take the whole time - because we live in Lincs we have to give ourselves time to get to the north of Scotland before we can start and then need to get home from Cornwall.  The actual Top Down journey will be about five days - Monday to Friday.

We are raising money for two worthwhile causes in our local area:

- Macmillan Cancer Support in Lincolnshire: Macmillan improves the lives of people affected by cancer locally. They provide practical, medical, emotional and financial support and push for better cancer care.

- The Salvation Army in Boston: The centre in Boston is the base for a lot of work in the community and is a Christian church.  Funds are always needed, especially so in Boston at the moment because the existing building is being rebuilt into a new centre.

Each organisation will benefit from 50% of the total amount raised from our trip.  Justgiving.com can only send the money to one charity, so The Salvation Army has agreed to send half the money to Macmillan Cancer Support after our trip is complete.

Please give generously and help make our trip the fantastic fundraising opportunity it is!
