Biking 2 Belgium 4 Dad · 15 September 2009

The Kirkwood exists to improve the quality of life for local people, against all odds. We help those in our care to live well and make the most of every single day. We make the complex simple by focusing on what's important, and we support families and loved ones to live on and live well.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I am Biking 2 Belgium in memory of my dad. I would really appreciate if you could sponsor me to help raise funds for Kirkwood Hospice, Huddersfield, West Yorkshire.

My father, Keith, died of cancer earlier this year. He spent several weeks in the wonderful care of the staff at Kirkwood Hospice. This made his passing a little easier to bear.
To honour Dads memory, a friend and I are cycling from the Hospice to Talbot House in Belgium. (
www.talbothouse.be)   Dad did many things in his life and one of these was his association with Toc H. (An organisation named after Talbot House and whose 'motto'; Building a fairer society by working with communities to promote friendship and service, confront prejudice and practice reconciliation...says it all )
Each year, Mum and Dad would spend a month as volunteer wardens at Talbot House, assisting visitors and travellers alike at all hours of the day and night ! We aim to arrive at Talbot House on the day of its annual Garden Party where a memorial service is to be held for Dad.
Those that knew Dad will know that he upheld the motto of Toc H by being a fair, decent and helpful man to all.
Dad was also a member of Gledholt Male Voice Choir, Probus, Colne Valley Museum and Lindley Methodist Church amongst other activities he enjoyed. He kept busy !!

I feel compelled to do something out of the ordinary to both remember my dad in my own way and also to raise money for a very worthwhile cause.
The photo shows Mum and Dad with their 3 grandchildren on their Golden Wedding Anniversary.
