I have to do something to help local people suffering with cancer and terminal illness.
First of all I'm thankful to my GP who took it upon himself (without any prior symptoms from me) to request, over a number of years that my PSA count be checked at my yearly health reviews and for his diligence at recognising a correlation over this period. Secondly I'd like to thank my surgeon, Dr Robin Weston, who's pioneering Da Vinci Si Robotic procedure, first introduced in a Hospital in the North West (Royal Liverpool) in May 2011 and used to remove my cancer.
In March 2011, my GP requested that I undergo more detailed medical checks and procedures, after which I was diagnosed with prostate cancer in July 2011. On 18th August 2011, at the Royal Hospital Liverpool, I had Robotic surgery to remove my prostate.
What disturbed me and other people I have told my story to was that I never experienced any of the usual / early prostate symptoms that prompt many men (but not all) to visit their GP; yet at my diagnosis I was informed that my cancer was classed as aggressive and later informed that the cancerous cells had reached the outer edges of my prostate.
Today, I still don’t know if my body is completely rid of the cancerous cells, but I stay hopeful and attend periodic reviews to evaluate this situation. As a result of my experience I have decided that I would like to help others who may be suffering from cancer related issues. My pledging to raise a minimum of £3000 from sponsorship
My undertaking is to take the Brazilian Trek challenge in support of the Marie Curie Cancer Care. This is a strenuous five day trek, going back to basics, hiking between 6 – 8 hours each day through the extremely tough mountainous terrain of Brazils Sierra Da Bocaina rain Forest. This challenge is designed to test all who take part as they push themselves physically and mentally to complete the challenge in order to raise funds for local people suffering with cancer and other terminal illnesses back home in Merseyside.
So if you can help please donate now, every penny counts.
If you can dig deep we'll reach the minimum target quicker.
