Story
Thank you for visiting my fundraising page.
On the 20th June I'll be jumping out of a plane on my own at 3,500 feet via a static line parachute along with my sister Clare who'll be doing a tandam skydive from 14,000 feet. We aim to raise £2000 towards promoting a greater awareness of Mesothelioma, an asbestos related cancer, which sadly took our dad from us on the 11th October 2007.
After returning from a holiday in Tenerife with my mum, dad developed a pain in his side on the 24th September & after visitng the doctors was told to go to Westmorland General Hospital. Once there he was told he had pneumonia & fluid on his left lung. Over the next few days the pain only got worse to the point where he was admitted into Furness General Hospital & had his lung drained. Feeling much better he was allowed home the following day until the day after he passed out at home & was re-admitted to have his lung drained again. It was October the 4th when dad was transferred to Blackpool Hospital for a biopsy, but he had deteriorated rapidly & was now struggling to breathe so was moved into intensive care. Five days later he was still too ill to have the biopsy so was transferred back to Furness General. The next day we were told dad was dying from respiratory failure. On the 11th October, surrounded by his wife, son & daughter, he passed away.
We had to wait over 3 months for the inquest to tell us Mesothelioma had caused his death. All because he had worked with Asbestos as an Electrician over 40 years ago.
Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Mick Knighton Mesothelioma Research Fund. British Lung Foundation gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.
