UPDATE: Bill successfully completed his Big Bike Ride in 11 1/2 hrs.
I left Shoreham with my dad at 06.30 and pedalled the Downs Link, an amazing cycle track along the old railway line between Shoreham and Guildford. Here we got on the towpath along the Wey Canal - mum taking over from dad at Ripley, this took us to Weybridge. From Weybridge we followed the Thames towpath all the way into central London, with dad joining the track at Kingston. A very beautiful route, although a bit bumpy in certain places.
We were kept going with porridge, bananas, energy bars and lots and lots of water, provided by our support team - a parent and Freddie. But luckily we didn't need them for any emergencies and only had one puncture which was fixed quickly on the cycle path.
Thank you so much to everyone who has supported me and the Rainbow Trust, they are really grateful for all the donations.
Look out for the article in this week's Surrey Advertiser - I didn't think I'd be getting a picture in the paper when I first thought of doing this bike ride, just thought it could be a fun thing to do!
I'm ten years old and am going to ride my bike 100 miles from Shoreham on Sea to London on Saturday 29th May 2010 and I want to raise as much money as possible for the Rainbow Trust. I think this is a great charity that is well worth supporting. Last year I cycled my bike along the Kennet & Avon Canal from Reading to Bath. It was 84 miles, so this time I thought I'd try and do 100 miles.
This ride has been kindly supported by CYCLE WORKS in Leatherhead.
