Story
Thank you for visiting my fundraising page.
I launched this website in January, 2008, when we were approaching the third anniversary of those terrible days leading up to the death of our lovely daughter, Stella. I'm closing it a year later by scrapping almost all that was written during the previous twelve months and writing a brief summary of what happened.
The arrangements for the trek were made by Global Adventures and they did an excellent job. No hitches whatever.
The top and tail of the trip were times in Beijing and our group had chance to visit the Hutongs on our first afternoon and a completely free day after the trek was over.
I managed to visit Tienanman Square, the Forbidden City and a very formal and fascinating tea ceremony.
All in all about £9000 has gone to LOROS. Most of this was in the form of donations given directly to me but giving via this website also produced a significant sum. Gift aiding added further and I don't know at present exactly how much this has produced.
Anyway, a year ago I doubted that I would raise anywhere near the target of £2750, let alone do so by April, let alone double it and finally treble it. People's generosity has been overwhelming and I simply don't have the words to fully express my thanks. Only today I received an invitation to speak at one of the churches in Rugby and with it the offer of a further donation. Money from such engagements will go directly to LOROS but won't count in my trek fundraising. I had to draw the line somewhere and I told LOROS a few days ago that all the money I expected to raise through the trek has now been handed over.
So thank you from the bottom of my heart for your encouragement, interest and support; for your messages, cards, emails, phone calls and, of course, for your money. It has been an experience like no other and quite beyond anything I imagined. Wow, wow, wow, wow, wow!!!!!
Stella would have been very proud of all the effort in her name.
With my love and thanks.
Bill.
