Blackpool to Preston Walk · 24 September 2008

Many of the sickest children in the North West receive life saving care in the Critical Care Unit of Royal Manchester Children's Hospital. We want these children to receive the very best care possible. The money we raise will be used to provide the staff with access the very latest equipment and training in order to achieve this aim.

WHY???  Our son, Liam Rhys, was born on 17th January 2008 in Preston and after just 50 minutes he stopped breathing. He was ventilated and diagnosed with a congenital diaphragmatic hernia (a hole in the diaphragm). He was transferred to Pendlebury Children’s Hospital, Intensive Care Unit in Manchester. The staff cared for him until he was strong enough for the operation he required at four days old and also after the surgery until he was well enough to come home.  Liam is still under the care of the hospital who are monitoring his progress.

The care and support we received from the hospital was fantastic and when we heard that the ICU and HDU units of Pendlebury needed to raise money for much needed equipment to help others, we decided to arrange a Sponsored Walk on Sunday 28th September from Blackpool to Preston (Just over 15 miles) to help raise money and hopefully give something back to them as a THANK YOU for saving Liam's life and all they have done for him and hopefully to help others in the future.
