"Opportunity favours the prepared legs"

Thanks for visiting the BlackRock Lewa Marathon Team 2009 fundraising page.

In June BlackRock return to Kenya with a fresh team of keen and finely honed running machines. Our new and more diverse group of intrepid runners, who'll no doubt be barely distinguishable from the nimble gazelles gracefully and effortlessly traversing the plains, are aiming to raise at least £50,000.

It's a relentless, grinding, uphill struggle most of the way. Hot, dusty and gruelling amongst fierce competition - as much a test of mental as physical stamina. No, not your daily commute, but the half marathon course our fearless team have committed to tackle. Neither an altitude of over 5,500 feet (just in case it might otherwise be too easy) nor the prospect of being lapped by 5 year old Kenyans will deter them (although privately one or two of them might admit to a little nervousness at being ungratefully attacked by the large game they're so selflessly trying to raise money to protect…..).

Will Mark replace Absolute Alpha with Absolute Panic? Will Catherine find the open air toilet facilities acceptable? Is it true the giraffes will strain their necks looking up at Dorian? Will Alex get up in time? We'll have an official photographer with us, so you'll be able to find all this out and more, witnessing in great detail from the comfort of your desk the extreme pain we'll have gone through upon our return. Any sponsorship you can spare in these challenging times would be gratefully received. Sponsor us out of sympathy, guilt, sadistic pleasure at our discomfort - whatever works for you works for us!

The cause is very worthwhile. Tusk Trust runs over 40 projects across Africa helping to conserve wildlife, improve the lives of locals and educate people, helping them to help themselves. A little can go a long way, and can make a real difference, providing things we all take for granted, such as a clean supply of water. Please dig as deeply as you can to help us meet our target.
