Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page! I've always been interested in the well-being of our troops and would like to honour the sacrifices they make for us.

VJ Day falls on August 15th and marks the anniversary of the end of WWII so I chose July to do this as it's the last full month before that date. A ration diet is my way of not only choosing a relevant challenge, but also making my own sacrifice - believe me, for me it will be a challenge and a sacrifice!! A good friend of mine was a Rifleman and I discussed the issue with him before carefully choosing Care for Casualties as my charity so hopefully this will bring them a bit more funding and publicity.

I run a monthly Clandestine Cake Club in Shoreditch and as a result, the July club will focus entirely on rations and will be called "Blitz Bakes: Ration Cakes" so everyone in the club can suffer with me on that day, and I won't break my challenge promise :)

The rationed foods are those listed in my picture gallery, scanned from the book written by Marguerite Patten OBE. Although I'm able to eat veg and some fruit, I'll stick to only those which are in season in England in July because obviously, if a war was on, I'd be growing my own! I run 2 blogs: afternoon-tease.blogspot.co.uk and make-upbake-up.blogspot.co.uk so you can check them out for further details xx

PS - see http://www.memorylanehf.oddquine.co.uk/food.htm for British Rations :)
