BLOOD, SWEAT & BEERS!

On Sunday May 22 four of the most implausible athletes you’re ever likely to meet will head north and tackle the greatest sporting challenge of them all: The Marathon. As with many an illustrious decision made throughout history, alcohol was the key factor when  Kev Jones, Jill Anderson, Alex Bedingham and Brian Dall decided to face the 26.2 miles of the 2011 Edinburgh Marathon Festival. An intoxicated declaration we’ve regretted ever since.

Once the monumental choice was made, we’d signed up, and began the training process, it soon became apparent that through all the sweat and pain, it was only natural that we should raise some cash for a valuable charity in the process, which is where you kind folk (or at least your wallets!) come into play.

We’ve decided to fundraise for a really deserving cause and one which is particularly close to Brian’s heart; The Answer Project

ANSWER provides a day care service for older people living with dementia in the west of West Lothian. The charity was formed in 1994 and has brought much relief and respite for carers.

ANSWER works closely in developing links with health and social services and raising the awareness of the needs of older people in the community. The project helps prevent unnecessary admissions to institutional care as well as educating older people in their rights to welfare benefits and how to access information technology.

So we’d like to request that all sponsorship for our 26.2 effort to go towards this small charity who make a real impact on their local community - all donations small or large will be very gratefully received. Every little helps and every single last penny counts!

And to pay our respects to the beverage that inspired this entire preposterous saga, we are having our own charity beer brewed to raise further funds for the cause. ‘Marathon’ is a pale, hoppy ale which Leeds Brewery have kindly created for our benefit.

It will be available from May 8th and will be on sale in Brigantes (Micklegate), and further Market Tavern pubs across Yorkshire. So pop in, enjoy a pint or two and help us reach our fundraising target!

As for the colossal challenge itself, many questions remain to be answered: Will Alex 'Usain Rusty Bolt' Bedingham complete the course in record time? Will Jill 'Little Red Running Face' Anderson complete the course at all? Will Kev 'Landlord' Jones' resist the lure of the lure Edinburgh’s licenced establishments along the way? And will Brian 'O.M. Withers' Dall be in any fit state to make his his 16 hour flight to Thailand the following morning!? Only time will tell.

Thanks for all your support, we'll definitely need it!!
