Blunham Cricket Club in Bedfordshire, England is going to try to break the world record for the longest continuous game of cricket. The current record stands at 50 hours 18 minutes, set earlier this year in Australia. From 19th - 21st September 2008, Blunham will aim to break that record, by achieving a 59 hour game - regardless of the weather and playing right through the Friday and Saturday nights.
As well as 3 senior sides, Blunham CC has nearly 100 colts aged 14 and under. However our clubhouse and training facilities are totally inadequate. To support the work we are doing in coaching and encouraging these youngsters in taking up sport and an interest, we need to improve what we have significantly to ensure their progress. This marathon game is to be a major fundraising event as we aim to raise £100,000 to refurbish and extend the existing pavilion, plus a further £34,000 for nets.
Due to ill health and as the (non-playing) webmaster for the Blunham Cricket Club, this page is for those who would like to support the efforts of the brave 24 lads who will be attempting this exhausting record, but also for the army of vital supporters who will be doing the scoring, witnessing, umpiring and stewarding, not to mention food preparation, cooking and clearing up - all trying to raise the funds for their club and our village.
