My story
Since 2005 BoardFree has supported the Lowe Syndrome Trust through the medium of long distance skateboard journeys. Many skate journeys are currently underway in support of Lowe and other charities, but this is BoardFree's central sponsorship page where people can show an appreciation of what we do.
Lowe Syndrome (or Oculo-Cerebro-Renal syndrome) is caused by a DNA mutation that effects the eyes, brain and kidneys of predominantly young male sufferers. Babies are born with bi-lateral cataracts, hypotomia (muscle weakness), kidney problems (wasting of essential nutrients) impaired growth, intellectual impairment and later may suffer brittle bones, arthritis, rickets, epilepsy (seizures) and behavior problems (autistic spectrum disorder). Many also have cysts and dental problems.
We will continue to do what we can to help the Lowe Syndrome Trust find a cure for the disease, please help where you can.
Visit www.boardfree.co.uk to find out more about BoardFree's work.
Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Lowe Syndrome Trust will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.
My charity
Lowe Syndrome Trust
Charity Registration No. 1081241
The Lowe Syndrome Trust is a UK Charity formed in June 2000 by parents of a Lowe syndrome child. The charity supports families and initiates and funds medical research into Lowe Syndrome. Lowe Syndrome is a genetic disorder that can occur with no family history, affecting boys and multiple physical and mental handicaps including cataracts in both eyes, muscle weakness (hypotonia or floppy baby syndrome), kidney problems, cysts, brittle bones, arthritis, poor growth, mental impairment with behaviour problems (autistic spectrum disorder) and epilepsy. Sadly the life expectancy for these children is short due to the complications of the disease and the lack of funding to find a cure.
