Well, the date finally came round and I actually did the run last Sunday. It was hard work, even more so because I hadn't done any training! A huge thank you goes out to Linny Beaumont and Fiona Hill who ran slowly with me at the back telling me to "think of your legs and feet", I couldn't have done it without them. Thanks also to Nick and Heidi Stark who stepped in at the last minute and gave me a lift when the car wouldn't start.
But my biggest thanks goes out to all you lovely people out there who have dug deep and sponsored me - BIG LOVE to all you guys and girls! You helped to motivate me as I ran round Cannon Hill Park, as I kept on thinking I couldn't let you down.
I know it was "only" 5km, but it was a long way for me. I felt exhilarated when I finished it, and I would definitely do it again. You never know, I may even go for 10km next time.
Thank you everyone.
My original message is here:
I have decided to put my money where my mouth is and take part in the Birmingham 5km run to raise much needed funds for Home-Start. The run takes part on Sunday 13th September at Cannon Hill Park, Birmingham.
Home-Start is a wonderful charity that offers practical and emotional support to families with children under the age of five. Having just become a father, I can understand the real need for Home-Start.
Now that the weather is getting warmer, it's time to put on my trainers and run up the canal path up to Narborough. You never know who I might meet on the way! This is a good way for me to get fit and get some "fresh" Leicester air. Wish me luck.
Please sponsor what you can afford to enable me to support this very worthwhile cause. If you are in the Birmingham area on 13th September, you might want to come along and give me your moral support.
Thanks for visiting my fundraising page.
Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Home-Start UK gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.
So please sponsor me now!
