My story

Thanks for visiting my fundraising page.

You may wonder why a seasoned walker like myself is doing a sponsored walk around the East End.  This is the easy option; some people are doing a bike ride from London to Paris or running in the Marathon but I've ended up with a place on a walk from Aldgate to Whitechapel!  However it's all in aid of a good cause so I'd really appreciate it if you were willing to make a donation.

Some of you may know that my mum went into a care home called Nightingale last year and that I'm now doing some voluntary work in the fundraising office of the charity that run it.  It's hard to find a decent care home but this charity is worth supporting because the emphasis is on providing a stimulating environment with lots of activities and outings rather than just sitting around staring into space.  It's also pioneering the use of lots of volunteers to work with residents and staff.  These volunteers come from a wide range of backgrounds and different faiths including schools and the local community.  I would like to see more homes and other communities learning from Nightingale's emphasis on activities and use of volunteers.

Nightingale is unusual for a care home in being large (200 residents from all over London) and having its own concert hall, library, cafe, physiotherapy gym and medical centre on site.

Some residents pay their own fees out of their savings but some are supported by Social Services and as always there is a funding shortfall.  Any money raised will help Nightingale provide good care to all its residents and to share examples of good practice with other care homes and charities. Nightingale is also hoping to build a new dementia wing as there is a growing need in this field.

Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Nightingale gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.  If you have any difficulty donating then please email helpdesk@justgiving.com
So please sponsor me now!
