Story

It is not too late. You can make on-line donations until January 2009. And for those of you holding off until we completed all 26.2 miles - We did it!

29th October 2008.

Yes - we did it!

Was it the lovely Irish people with their beautiful accents calling our names as we ran through the streets, the energy gels, the weeks of training or your pledges for Macmillan that got us round the 26.2 mile Dublin marathon? Probably a combination of them all. It was fantastic. We could hardly walk yesterday and I (Bobbie) am in a world of pain today - but it was worth it.

We are stiff and sore but it is your donations, not our effort that really makes a difference. So thank you so very very much for all your donations and messages of support.

August 2008.

We both know from experience the difficulties that families can face while living with cancer so we are hoping to raise a little money for MacMillan nurses, who provide an amazing service to many families at one of the worst times of their lives. To do this we have decided to run... well - attempt to run.

As we had more chance of running for the British Olympic team than getting into the London Marathon we decided to do a number of runs this year finishing with the Dublin Marathon in October 2008.

September 2008

In preparation for Dublin we started our training with the Great British 10k on Sunday 6th July. This was a fantastic event and we finished the run well with some severe stiffness, hobbling and limping for a few days after. Spurred on by this success we then ran the Bristol Half Marathon on Sunday 14th September. Our hopes for a cool autumn morning were dashed as the sun shone brightly for us and the enthusistic and friendly spectators. The large amount of runners meant a nice easy start and enjoyable run out to the suspension bridge - a lovely but straight run out of town and back. Without the sun it would have been perfect - as it was, it was HOT. The final three miles were a real challenge but the finish in the centre of Bristol cheered on by a huge crowd was amazing. It was tough. But we did it. (John came in 5817th place, Bobs close behind -  5839th.) We certainly realise that we must use the next 6 weeks to get more miles in our legs - 26 miles is a looong looong way.  We are proud of ourselves and thank everyone for supporting us so far and for the donations already received.

Dublin Marathon is on Monday 27th October....

Training update - we did an 18 mile training run on the 29th September - we have never experienced pain like it....

We are paying for all race entry, travel, accommodation, post race bananas and pints of Guinness. All donations made via this site or in cash will go straight to Macmillan Cancer Support.  Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor us: Macmillan Cancer Support gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation. 'Justgiving' do take a percentage but the gift aid more than covers this.

So please sponsor us for a pound or two , it will help focus our energies in the wind and the rain on a grey October morning in Ireland.

Thanks for visiting our fundraising page.

Cheers
