All,

"JustGiving" now has a new "Donate by Text Message" service. This allows you to donate to the Shelterbox cause via a simple text message.

If you missed out first time around, and still wanted to give something to a worthy charity, why not give this quick and easy method a go?

All you need to do is send an SMS message to the following number (short code): "70070", and use the text; "BCSB99" along with adding the amount you want to give (£1, £2, £3, £4, £5 or £10).

So, for a £10 donation, you'd write the SMS like this;

BCSB99 £10

and send it to 70070.

See http://blog.justgiving.com/community/fundraisers-can-now-receive-text-donations/ or http://tinyurl.com/638vabs for more information.

It's totally free and without charge.

Of course, you can still give by card payment at the same web page; www.justgiving.com/bookcrossers4shelterbox or http://tinyurl.com/65c9onz .

Our current boxes are;

UK0062609
UK0062026
UK0061572

All, thanks ever so much for getting us to the 100% mark! Box numbers are to follow shortly for those wishing to track their donation right through.

You can still give to Shelterbox using this page, so if you were putting it off, now's the time to do it! ;-)

All,

Changing from my usual "SSBM" posting style for a moment (that's "Suggested Solutions-Based 'Moaning'... ;-) ), I was watching the news last night, and caught a piece on the "Shelterbox" company;

http://www.shelterbox.org

They are currently providing emergency shelter and lifesaving supplies for families in Japan who are affected by the recent disaster at the time when they need it the most.

What caught my eye, and without wishing to be frivolous at such a harrowing time, was that they are able to provide a "tracking number" to any donors who donate funds to cover a whole (shelter)box;

http://www.shelterbox.org/trackbox.php

This tracking number can then be used online to "see" and follow where your box has gone, going some way to linking the donor with the actual support they have given;

http://www.shelterbox.org/trackbox.php?ClientName=10th+Rotherham+Scouts&Country=United+Kingdom

I was thinking... if I were to set up a "JustGiving" page (as Shelterbox suggest) in the name of BookCrossing, with a view of us collecting enough donations to "buy" a box @ £590 ($950), is there any interest from fellow BookCrossers here the world over to also donate and hopefully eventually buy and track "our" box?

Would there be any objections to promoting it via further posts here in the forums?

Appreciate the comments.

Regards

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaiAmed on Aevery eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

So please dig deep and donate now.
