London 10K Run Sunday 6 July 2008 10K = 6.21371 Miles or 6 Miles and 376.132 yards We did it!
After a rather chilly and damp start, Cat and myself joined 25,000 other top notch athletes and managed to complete the course in a respectable time of 58 mins and 54 seconds. We would show you photographs of us running, but we were going so fast our official photographer couldn't keep up (well thats my story anyhow); we'll put on a post race picture as soon as we get it. I'd like to thank Niall for the driving, cooking and support as well as Sam for map reading (oh... and making me watch some hiddeous TV programmes.) I'd also like to thank Sam's father who very kindly allowed us to stay in the heart of Westminster saving us a fortune on accommodation and travelling time. Finally, we'd like to thank everyone who has sponsored us or supported us in any way, the folks from Open Doors were really grateful for our involvement. The Blurb..... Like the London Marathon, we will be running along the River Thames and pass many of the capital's landmarks including St James' Palace and the London Eye. Cat and myself are both from Bourne Baptist Church and have decided that we would do something that benefited people that we may never meet and would share this page as a means of adding up all our sponsorship together. About us As any of you who know me (Ellis) will recognise, I'm not what you’d call a natural athlete, but I am determined to complete the run on behalf of a charity that is dear to my heart, as, by the sheer nature of what Open Doors does, most of which needs to be in secret, means that not many people hear about the good work they do. Cat is less than half my age and significantly fitter (she's one of those serious about running types) so I have the additional pressure of trying to keep up with her (yea-right!). Why donate to Open Doors? Now you may think that supporting an organisation that is linked to a particular religious faith is a poor use of your money, but please remember, these are REAL people who are suffering great injustices RIGHT NOW just for standing out as being different. Being a Christian in many countries isn’t a decision to be taken lightly as it may mean being persecuted to the point of imprisonment without grounds, tortured or even killed. Right now more than 200 million Christians are at risk of persecution around the world, it is happening right now to people and families like us. What do Open Doors do? Open Doors is active in around 45 countries, supplying Bibles, leadership training, Scripture-based literacy programmes and significant support for Christians suffering for their faith. And they want to continue to encourage the Church here to play its part: that means not only responding to the needs of the Persecuted Church, but also learning from their experience of what it means to follow Jesus. To learn more about Open Doors please visit their web site: http://www.opendoorsuk.org Thanks for visiting our fundraising page. Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor us: Open Doors gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.
So please sponsor us now, we really appreciate it and so will many people around the world that may see the hope that Open Doors brings!
