Bike Ride Blog: http://bournemouthbikeride2010.wordpress.com/
In the great tradition of having done it once before a couple of years ago, a group of woefully under-prepared but cheerfully optimistic individuals will this Summer set off from the rough and ready frontier town of Harpenden, bound for the rougher and readier coastal settlement of Bournemouth.
Their epic journey will (probably) take them through the badlands of Beaconsfield, Maidenhead, Reading, Basingstoke, Winchester and the untamed and unexplored expanse of the New Forest (nb; here be unicorns).
In terms of distance, the intrepid fellowship will cover an estimated 120 miles, though intuition tells us that they will probably get fairly lost and we're looking at more like a figure of maybe 150 to 200 miles. In fact, if they don't buy a map, we may never see them again.
Their progress (or hilarious lack thereof) during the ride (and in the run up to it) will be documented on an online blog, where you'll also be able to contact us and send us messages of commiseration when our legs finally fall off. You can also leave messages for the riders by donating on this page (hint hint).
We will be raising money for the fine and upstanding charity Macmillan Cancer Support, who aim to improve the lives of people living with cancer in many different ways. So please give generously. In their own words:
"Macmillan Cancer Support improves the lives of people affected by cancer. We provide practical, medical and financial support and push for better cancer care. Cancer affects us all. We can all help. We are Macmillan."
