Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.
Here is a brief introduction as to how we came about agreeing to do this challenge. The company was approached by K H Coachworks at the end of 2011 asking if they would like to get a group of enthusiastic walkers together to take part in the 3 Peak Challenge.
Once 5 of us had hastily agreed to do this, and taking into account that we were not exactly athletic, we then decided that we would try to raise the much needed funds for the Lincs & Notts Air Ambulance and make all the pain and suffering worth while.
It costs aprroximately 1.7 million pounds per year to keep this much needed piece of equipment in the air, which is around 50p a year per person living in the two counties. Also with the company being based in a rural area it is often seen being used.
We would therefore appreciate it if you could dig deep and donate as much as you possibly can to support us in our challenge and help to keep the air ambulance flying.
Here are a few interesting facts on the air ambulance:
1) Its is based at RAF Waddington
2) It takes the air ambulance less than 20 minutes to travel to the furthest points within both counties.
3) 50% of the call outs are to road traffic accidents.
* Donations given to enable this fund raising event to go ahead have been kindly received from:
Bailey Etchell Signs - Bourne
Burnt Tree Vehicle Hire - Peterborough
Chandlers Oil and Gas - Grantham
10th March - The group of 5 are heading off for the first time as a team to Mam Tor (Castleton) Derbyshire. This will be the first taster session that the group have done and will see just how well they walk as team. Tony is going armed with his camera so will be able to show pictures of their progress.
The Team did their first training session as a team on the 10/3/12 completing the Mam Tor Walk, a 8 mile walk in the Peak District. Details of the walk can be found here. http://www.greatwalksinbritain.co.uk/Editions/Walks/Peak%20District%20Ridge%20Walk%20From%20Castleton.pdf
They would like to take this chance to thank everyone who has already taken the time to support the air ambulance by donating and sponsoring them but as you can see further funds are still required so please keep talking about this team of fund raisers and encourage people to give as much as possible. Thank you.
20th April 2012 - Unfortunately we have to announce that Richard Batty will no longer be taking part in the challenge due to unforseen circumstances, however he will still be supporting this by getting sponsors for the group. We now have a replacement who is one of the lorry drivers, Tom Little, and he is looking forward to taking part and raising further funds for our worthy charity.
Bourne Textile Services group will be meeting up with the group from K H Coachworks tomorrow to have a training period on Scafell Pike. Watch this space for further updates and a report on how they got on.
2nd May 2012 - The four of us have now finally recovered from the challenging climb of Scafell Pike and it was completed in approximately 6 hours, this highlighted to us just how big a challenge it is going to be as this mountain alone should be completed in 5 hours, however I would like to add that we did stop for lunch and took the longest route.
David Bower is now in the process of preparing himself to tackle Ben Nevis this weekend, from this we hope to be able to achieve an idea of the time required to complete the first mountain. This will then just leave us Snowdon to contend with before we make the official ascent on June 9th.
We would also like to take this opportunity to thank all of those who have already very kindly taken to time to sponsor us in this challenge.
28th May 2012 - Roger Moore will no longer be taking part in the challenge due to an injury, he has now called in the support of one of our drivers, Luke Enderwick. He would however like to encourage everyone to continue their support for the team of five that are doing the challenge and thanks everyone who has already taken the time to sponsor or donate.
(Please keep coming back to the page to see updates on the training progress)
