At midday on December 5th 2011, we departed La Gomera in the Canary Islands to row unsupported to Barbados in the Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge - "The World's Toughest Rowing Race".

40 days, 9 hours and 15 minutes later we crossed the finishing line off North Point in Barbados as winners of the race - beating the second placed boat by just 26 minutes in the closest finish in the race's history and missing out on the world record for a pairs crossing by just under 4 hours.

You can find out more about the race, the challenges we faced and photographs taken during the race at our website www.boxnumber8.com.

As part of the project, we are supporting the disaster relief charity Shelterbox, which provides support to people caught up in areas of devastation caused by natural disasters or from conflict by delivering boxes of aid.  Each box supplies an extended family with a tent and lifesaving equipment to use while they are displaced or homeless.

Our Atlantic journey saw us at sea for 40 days with all that we needed to survive contained on board our own "shelterbox".

Our Fundraising target is the equivalent to the cost of 224 boxes - the exact number that can be fitted into a standard 40ft ISO container (the type of container in which the boxes are transported around the world) - it is also equivalent to 1 box for every 20km that we rowed across the Atlantic!

We think that this will be a fantastic target to reach and we don't underestimate the challenge in raising this amount through donations... but then we took on the Atlantic in a rowing boat, so we're clearly not ones to avoid a challenge. Unlike the rowing part, we can only reach this target with your help and every donation really will make a difference to the life of a family caught up in a disaster zone somewhere in the world.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - we raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

Thank you for your support and please donate as much as you can - every pound that we can raise will go to help families around the world who are facing far greater challenges than we did in our row across the Atlantic.
