Story
Swim is well under way now. We are powering through the lengths. Please keep donating.
On the 21 February 2013 we are hosting a sponsored swim in aid of Dorothy House Hospice Care. The swim is in memory of one of our regular swimmers, John Angell, who regrettably died of cancer in August 2011.
Please donate to help other families who know people in this tough situation.
Dorothy House gives free high-quality care and support to people with life-threatening illness. They are the local hospice charity for Bath, North and West Wiltshire and parts of Somerset. John and his wife, Kerena, worked closely with the team at Dorothy House Hospice, based in Winsley. Dorothy House provided at-home care for John as he was undergoing his treatment, including a hospital bed so that John could rest comfortably, and round the clock respite care so that Kerena could get a good night’s sleep and still find time to come swimming, an activity that she still enjoys today.
John was such a kind man who enjoyed having fun and spending time with his wife and three sons, Jamie, J J and Ben. His main passion in life was cycling - he went on long adventures including cycling to the top of Mont Ventoux in France in 2009. As his condition grew worse he was sadly unable to partake in this great pastime of his. Fortunately his courage, determination and stubbornness made him able to continue swimming, an activity that he and Kerena were able to enjoy together. John managed to come swimming right up until he was bed bound. Everyone at Bradford Pool, staff and customers alike have supported Kerena and her family through the hard times, for which they are all very grateful.
You can help support other families who have been encumbered by this heavy burden.
