My story
Hi - Thanks for visiting my webpage,
On 2nd March 2008, I will be pulling on my running vest and attempting to complete the Reading Half Marathon.
I will be trying to raise as much money as possible for the charity "COSMIC", the charity supporting the Children's Intensive Care Unit at St Mary's Hospital in Paddington. The reason for attempting this challenge is very close to my heart.
In April 2007, Grace, the daughter of my very close friends, Stuart and Natalie Bradburn, passed away. Grace was just 13 months old. Grace developed Chicken Pox which worsened over several days. On her first birthday she was admitted to the Royal Berkshire Hospital in Reading. While at the Royal Berkshire Hospital her condition continued to worsen and she was put on a ventilator. A decision was taken to transfer her by emergency ambulance to the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit at St Mary's in Paddington. Grace fought bravely for another 3 weeks, but in the end her immune system was unable to overcome the virus and she passed away.
While Grace was at St Mary's she benefited from world class treatment and care from her Doctors and Nurses who did everything possible to help her - she could not have been in a better place. Nat and Stu also benefited from the work of COSMIC, who paid for them to stay in a hotel for the 3 weeks that Grace was in St Mary's. This was immensely important and ensured that Nat and Stu were never far away and could respond quickly as Grace's condition fluctuated. COSMIC has also purchased vital hi-tech medical equipment for use on the unit, as well as funding continuing research into saving desperately sick children in the future.

My charity
COSMIC (Children Of St Mary's Intensive Care)
Charity Registration No. 1043697
COSMIC was founded in 1994 to raise money for the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) at St Mary’s Hospital in Paddington, London, which now treats around 500 desperately sick children every year. COSMIC raises money through a number of events each year, and is heavily supported by families whose lives have been touched by the PICU. All funds are used to provide life saving equipment, to provide support and accommodation to parents and to fund training, education and an internationally significant research programme at Imperial College London looking at the causes, effects and treatment of childhood diseases.
